Lasik eye surgery is consistently one of the most popular elective surgeries every year, and there is no secret as to why. Lasik has very impressive rates of effectiveness, in fact the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery reports a 90% rate of achieving 20/20 vision or better in patients and a 96% patient satisfaction rate. You can get a Lasik consultation in Tierrasanta at Total Vision and determine whether this is the best treatment route for your optical needs.

Lasik Surgery

Lasik surgery is a laser refractive eye surgery that can correct refractive errors such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism in many patients. During surgery, the eye surgeon uses lasers to reshape the cornea. The surgery itself lasts only about 15 minutes and you can “see” results in just 1-5 days.

If the prospect of leaving your glasses behind forever is exciting to you, your next step is a Lasik consultation at your local Total Vision in Tierrasanta.

Your Lasik Consultation

Much of your lasik consultation at Total Vision will closely resemble your annual comprehensive eye exam. Your optometrist will discuss your medical history, evaluate your vision problems, and screen for any current or potential eye diseases or conditions. It is important to note that not everyone is a candidate for Lasik surgery. To undergo Lasik you must not have had any significant change in your glasses/contact lens prescription in at least one year.

Additionally you must:

  • Be in otherwise good health
  • Not be pregnant or nursing
  • Be over 18 years old
  • Not be suffering from any eye diseases

Your optometrist will also take careful measurements of your eyes for your surgeon’s later use. Because contact lenses can slightly change the shape of the eye, you will be asked not to wear contact lenses for about two weeks prior to your consultation.

Weighing Your Options

Patients with very severe vision problems and patients over 40 may be better served by other laser eye surgeries or treatments, all of which your eye doctor will be glad to discuss with you during your consultation. Come to your consultation prepared to ask questions, to work with your eye doctor to set realistic expectations, and to honestly consider potential risks.

The primary aim of your Lasik consultation in Tierrasanta is to determine not only whether you are a candidate for Lasik surgery, but whether it is the best treatment route for your needs. Your Total Vision optometrist will help you make a decision they believe will best serve you for years to come.

COVID-19 Update:

Dear Patient,
We are pleased to announce that the California Department of Public Health has given us permission to resume full scope eye care, including preventative care and postponed exams.

At Total Vision Care, the health of our patients, doctors, and associates is our top priority. We are taking precautions to ensure the safety of our community.

Health and safety protocols we are taking:

  • All visits are by appointment to ensure social distancing. This includes picking up of glasses/contact lenses, adjustments on glasses, and ordering new products.
  • Patients are asked to arrive to their appointment alone and notify us from your vehicle once you arrive (a parent/guardian may accompany a minor and a family member/caretaker may assist a senior). Please call the office and someone will greet you at the door.
  • Prior to your entry a team member will take your temperature, provide you with hand sanitizer and ask you a series of questions regarding your health and possible COVID-19 exposure. Our team members are all subject to these same screening protocols.
  • All doctors, associates, and patients must wear masks.
  • Our team sterilizes all equipment and surfaces after every patient and disinfects all frames prior to placing them back on display.

What we ask of patients:

  • If you have any of the following symptoms, you must reschedule your appointment for a future date: Fever, fatigue, cough, shortness of breath, gastro-intestinal symptoms (diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, or stomach pains), recent loss of smell or taste.
  • Please bring a mask which must be worn in our facilities at all times.
  • Your patience in adhering to new safety protocols.
  • Please feel welcome to communicate any questions that you have to your Total Vision Care practice associates.

In addition, we will continue to monitor CDC, WHO, governmental, and optometric associations guidelines and make changes as appropriate to protect our community. Thank you so much for your continued support of our practices. We appreciate your patience throughout this process and for trusting us with your eyecare needs.
