She is well known for her excellence in patient care and personal approach to each patient.

  • Doctorate of Optometry degree from the University of Houston, Houston TX.
  • Bachelor of Science, Microbiology, degree from Texas A&M University, College Station TX.
  • Externship at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD., specialized in contact lenses.
  • Extensive experience in laser vision correction co-management.
  • Affiliated with NVISION Eye Centers.
  • Member of the San Diego County Optometric Association.
  • Member of the American Optometric Association.
  • Member of the Solana Beach Chamber of Commerce.
  • Lifetime member of Who's Who in Optometry.

In private practice at the Eye Gallery Optometry in Solana Beach since 2000.

Dr. Swikard is happily married to her husband, Mike, and has two boys, Trevor and Joshua. When not in the office, she can usually be found at her boys schools volunteering or on the baseball fields, cheering them on.

Carlton Chan, O.D.


Dr. Chan is licensed to diagnose and treat glaucoma, dry eyes, eye infections and other ocular emergencies. Dr. Chan studied biology at the University of California at Riverside. He continued his Optometric training at the Southern California College of Optometry where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Visual Science in 1988 and a Doctor of Optometry degree in 1990. Dr. Chan has been in solo practice since 1991. He enjoys seeing patients of all ages. His practice philosophy has always been to give personalized professional service. As the son of a career Air Force colonel, Dr. Chan had the opportunity to live all over the world. He was born in Los Angeles, California and he lived in Germany for 6 years and in Guam for 2 years. All of his world travels lead him to settle in the San Diego area. In his free time, Dr. Chan enjoys working with the homeless in downtown San Diego, giving his time at church, surfing, and hiking.


Office Manager

Lori has been with Total Vision Solana Beach for over 25 years. She has many years of experience managing retail stores and has a keen sense of fashion eyewear. Lori is a graduate of Wayne State University where she earned her Bachelor Degree in Psychology and Criminal Justice. When she is not in the office, she enjoys spending time with her husband and family.


Optometric Assistant

Drea joins Total Vision Solana Beach as an Optometric Assistant. She has experience working for a retinal specialist in Alaska and in New York . Her husband is active duty Military and they have 2 kids, a boy and girl. In her free time Drea likes to hangout with her family and go to the beach, amusement parks, and to clean.


Optometric Assistant

Kimmy is currently a junior at the UCSD studying Human Biology as a pre-optometry student. Outside of school she teaches piano, volunteers at church, and likes to spend time with her family.


Optometric Assistant

Chrystal moved from the Central Valley to San Diego to study radiology. She loves to be out in nature camping or stargazing. In her free time, she likes to spend time with her dogs, close friends and family.

COVID-19 Update:

Dear Patient,
We are pleased to announce that the California Department of Public Health has given us permission to resume full scope eye care, including preventative care and postponed exams.

At Total Vision Care, the health of our patients, doctors, and associates is our top priority. We are taking precautions to ensure the safety of our community.

Health and safety protocols we are taking:

  • All visits are by appointment to ensure social distancing. This includes picking up of glasses/contact lenses, adjustments on glasses, and ordering new products.
  • Patients are asked to arrive to their appointment alone and notify us from your vehicle once you arrive (a parent/guardian may accompany a minor and a family member/caretaker may assist a senior). Please call the office and someone will greet you at the door.
  • Prior to your entry a team member will take your temperature, provide you with hand sanitizer and ask you a series of questions regarding your health and possible COVID-19 exposure. Our team members are all subject to these same screening protocols.
  • All doctors, associates, and patients must wear masks.
  • Our team sterilizes all equipment and surfaces after every patient and disinfects all frames prior to placing them back on display.

What we ask of patients:

  • If you have any of the following symptoms, you must reschedule your appointment for a future date: Fever, fatigue, cough, shortness of breath, gastro-intestinal symptoms (diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, or stomach pains), recent loss of smell or taste.
  • Please bring a mask which must be worn in our facilities at all times.
  • Your patience in adhering to new safety protocols.
  • Please feel welcome to communicate any questions that you have to your Total Vision Care practice associates.

In addition, we will continue to monitor CDC, WHO, governmental, and optometric associations guidelines and make changes as appropriate to protect our community.
