Just imagine waking up with 20/20 vision every day! For 20 years, Lasik surgery has lastingly restored vision for hundreds of thousands of patients annually. Over time, improvements in methodology and instruments have helped Lasik earn impressive success and patient satisfaction rates. But is Lasik surgery right for you? Get the answer from a Lasik consultation in University City's Golden Triangle Optometric Center.

Lasik Surgery

The aim of Lasik surgery is to permanently correct blurred vision caused by refractive errors, blurred vision caused by the shape of the eye and/or cornea. During Lasik surgery, the surgeon creates a flap in the cornea (the lens of the eye) and then uses a laser to reshape the cornea, correcting the refractive error. According to the Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery, 99 percent of patients achieve better than 20/40 vision and more than 90 percent achieve 20/20 or better through Lasik surgery.

Your Lasik Consultation

At your Golden Triangle Optometric Center Lasik consultation, your optometrist will perform a variety of tests and screenings to evaluate your overall eye health and precisely determine your current prescription. Your eye doctor will also take rigorous measurements of many facets of the eye for later use by your Lasik surgeon.

Although Lasik surgery itself lasts only about 15 minutes, your Lasik consultation will last about two hours. It will be painless, but because pupil dilation is necessary, you may wish to arrange to have someone else drive you home afterward.

Am I a Candidate for Lasik Surgery?

Lasik surgery is an option for many patients with refractive errors including nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. Candidates for Lasik surgery

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must not have had any major change in their prescription in the last year
  • Must be in otherwise good overall health and not suffer from additional eye conditions or diseases
  • Must not be pregnant or nursing or take certain medications
  • Must have at least .5mm corneal thickness

Weighing Your Options

Through these examinations and measurements, and careful review of your medical history, your optometrist will make a determination about the appropriateness of Lasik surgery for you during your Lasik consultation. If you are a candidate, your eye doctor will answer your questions about Lasik surgery and help you develop realistic expectations for the outcome of your surgery. If Lasik surgery is unlikely to be successful for you, your optometrist can help you consider other options.

COVID-19 Update:

Dear Patient,
We are pleased to announce that the California Department of Public Health has given us permission to resume full scope eye care, including preventative care and postponed exams.

At Total Vision Care, the health of our patients, doctors, and associates is our top priority. We are taking precautions to ensure the safety of our community.

Health and safety protocols we are taking:

  • All visits are by appointment to ensure social distancing. This includes picking up of glasses/contact lenses, adjustments on glasses, and ordering new products.
  • Patients are asked to arrive to their appointment alone and notify us from your vehicle once you arrive (a parent/guardian may accompany a minor and a family member/caretaker may assist a senior). Please call the office and someone will greet you at the door.
  • Prior to your entry a team member will take your temperature, provide you with hand sanitizer and ask you a series of questions regarding your health and possible COVID-19 exposure. Our team members are all subject to these same screening protocols.
  • All doctors, associates, and patients must wear masks.
  • Our team sterilizes all equipment and surfaces after every patient and disinfects all frames prior to placing them back on display.

What we ask of patients:

  • If you have any of the following symptoms, you must reschedule your appointment for a future date: Fever, fatigue, cough, shortness of breath, gastro-intestinal symptoms (diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, or stomach pains), recent loss of smell or taste.
  • Please bring a mask which must be worn in our facilities at all times.
  • Your patience in adhering to new safety protocols.
  • Please feel welcome to communicate any questions that you have to your Total Vision Care practice associates.

In addition, we will continue to monitor CDC, WHO, governmental, and optometric associations guidelines and make changes as appropriate to protect our the community. Thank you so much for your continued support of our practices. We appreciate your patience throughout this process and for trusting us with your eyecare needs.

Sincerely,
The Total Vision Care Family of Eyecare Professionals
