Refractive Errors

Refractive errors cause most symptoms of blurred vision. Caused by an unusual shape of the eye or the cornea, each of these may be treated by your Total Vision optometrist with glasses, contacts, or in some cases, Lasik surgery. Keeping your prescription up to date with annual eye exams helps you maintain clearer vision throughout your life, just one of the many benefits of comprehensive eye care.

Types of Refractive Errors

  • Myopia, also called nearsightedness, causes a patient to be unable to see the faraway field of vision well.
  • Hyperopia, also called farsightedness, makes it difficult to properly see close up items or areas.
  • Astigmatism causes generally blurred vision.
  • Presbyopia is an age-related condition similar to hyperopia/farsightedness.

During your regular eye exams, your optometrist will verify and update your prescription to ensure you have the best possible visual acuity day in and day out. Total Vision in Carmel Valley also stocks a variety of designer glasses frames and will guide you toward the best possible lenses and lens for your particular vision problems.

Contact Lenses

Contact lens devotees will always find an up to date selection of the most popular contact lens brands at Total Vision in Carmel Valley. Whether you are new to contact lenses or have been wearing them for years, your optometrist will properly evaluate your contact lens prescription, recommend the best possible lens type, and make sure you have the latest information on maintenance and care.

Lasik Surgery

For many patients, Lasik surgery can be a life-changing solution to the problem of blurred vision. Our Total Vision optometrists in Carmel Valley can evaluate your candidacy for this and other laser eye surgeries during a quick and painless Lasik consultation.

Computer Vision Syndrome

Most American adults spend half their day or more looking at a digital screen. While the behavior is normal, the effect on your eyes can be painful. Symptoms such as eye strain and blurriness, headaches, neck and shoulder pain, and more can result.

Your Total Vision optometrist can diagnose computer vision syndrome during your comprehensive eye exam and help you find the right solution for you. Specialized computer glasses, practical changes in your workstation, and eye exercises recommended by your eye doctor may each provide relief,

By keeping up with your eye exams at Total Vision, your optometrist can keep track of gradual vision changes, update prescriptions as necessary, and ensure more serious problems are identified and treated as soon as possible.

COVID-19 Update:

Dear Patient,
We are pleased to announce that the California Department of Public Health has given us permission to resume full scope eye care, including preventative care and postponed exams.

At Total Vision Care, the health of our patients, doctors, and associates is our top priority. We are taking precautions to ensure the safety of our community.

Health and safety protocols we are taking:

  • All visits are by appointment to ensure social distancing. This includes picking up of glasses/contact lenses, adjustments on glasses, and ordering new products.
  • Patients are asked to arrive to their appointment alone and notify us from your vehicle once you arrive (a parent/guardian may accompany a minor and a family member/caretaker may assist a senior). Please call the office and someone will greet you at the door.
  • Prior to your entry a team member will take your temperature, provide you with hand sanitizer and ask you a series of questions regarding your health and possible COVID-19 exposure. Our team members are all subject to these same screening protocols.
  • All doctors, associates, and patients must wear masks.
  • Our team sterilizes all equipment and surfaces after every patient and disinfects all frames prior to placing them back on display.

What we ask of patients:

  • If you have any of the following symptoms, you must reschedule your appointment for a future date: Fever, fatigue, cough, shortness of breath, gastro-intestinal symptoms (diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, or stomach pains), recent loss of smell or taste.
  • Please bring a mask which must be worn in our facilities at all times.
  • Your patience in adhering to new safety protocols.
  • Please feel welcome to communicate any questions that you have to your Total Vision Care practice associates.

In addition, we will continue to monitor CDC, WHO, governmental, and optometric associations guidelines and make changes as appropriate to protect our community. Thank you so much for your continued support of our practices. We appreciate your patience throughout this process and for trusting us with your eyecare needs.
